The third US-China Smart Education Conference took place at the Beijing International Convention Center from March 18 to 20, 2018. Co-organized by Beijing Normal University, the University of North Texas, and the National Engineering Laboratory for Intelligent Technology and Application of Internet Education, and hosted by the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University, the American Educational Communications and Technology Association (AECT), and the China Academy of Education and Social Development, the conference attracted over 800 participants from research institutions, schools, and enterprises.
Prominent experts from both countries, including Chinese Academy of Engineering Academicians Pan Yunhe and Zhao Qinping, Lei Chaozi, Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology at China’s Ministry of Education, Dong Qi, President of Beijing Normal University, Zhong Binglin, President of the Chinese Society of Education, and Eugene G. Kowch, President of AECT, engaged in in-depth discussions on frontier topics such as Artificial Intelligence 2.0 and Educational Informatization 2.0.
Invited experts from institutions such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the U.S. National Science Foundation, the National Information Center, the Center for Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange of the Ministry of Education, the National Institute for Vocational Education, the China Education Technology Association, AECT, and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) delivered insightful reports on artificial intelligence, smart education, industry-education integration, and US-China educational exchange and cooperation. Multiple parallel forums were held, including the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Forum,” “Corporate Strategy Development in the Intelligent Era Forum,” “Industry-Education Integration and New Technology Cluster Breakthrough Forum,” “Artificial Intelligence and Education Forum,” “Smart Campus Forum,” and “US-China Smart Technology Cooperation Meeting,” facilitating dynamic dialogues between academia and industry.
The conference released the 2018 Technology Outlook for Chinese Vocational Education: A Horizon Project Report and concurrently hosted the International Conference on Smart Learning Environments and a Smart Education Exhibition. Leading enterprises such as China Mobile, iFLYTEK, NetDragon, Baidu, Xindao Technology, Lanmo Technology, and XuetangX showcased their latest smart education solutions, providing an excellent platform for communication and networking.
