From April 23 to 25, 2024, Professor Ronghuai Huang, Co-Dean of the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University, joined the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Education University of Hong Kong, alongside the concurrent “International Congress on Educational Futures 2024”. Professor Zijian Li, the President of the Education University of Hong Kong; officials from the Hong Kong Education Bureau and the Education and Science Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong; and esteemed guests such as Dr. Sobhi Tawil, Director of UNESCO’s Learning and Innovation Department, and Wei Li, Dean of the Institute of Education, University College London attended the celebration.
On April 24, at the invitation of Professor Xiangen Hu, Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dean Ronghuai Huang visited the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During the visit, discussions were held with Professor Fuda Mai, Senior Advisor to the Vice President; Professor Ping Li, Dean of the School of Humanities; and Associate Professor Xiaohua Chen, Director of the Teaching Development Center. The talks centered on the university’s research in various artificial intelligence systems, learning analytics, teaching evaluation, blended online learning, and teaching methodologies, culminating in mutual interest in exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on higher education through future collaborations.
On April 25, Co-Dean Ronghuai Huang participated as a keynote speaker in the “International Congress on Educational Futures 2024” (ICEF 2024) as part of the Education University of Hong Kong’s anniversary celebrations. Professor Ronghuai Huang delivered a keynote speech titled “Metaverse, AI, and STEAM Education in China’s Digital Transformation” Additionally, he engaged in the symposium “Elite or Idiot? Do Our Students Have Choices in the Digitalized World in the” hosted by Professor Shaoxiang Jiang of the Education University of Hong Kong. Throughout the event, Professor Ronghuai Huang conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on pertinent issues with international experts and scholars.
Over the past three decades, The Education University of Hong Kong has led advancements in education and related disciplines, significantly contributing to educational transformation. Renowned for its expertise in traditional teacher education, the university has also made notable strides in artificial intelligence and educational technology, cultural heritage education and arts management, sports science and coaching, and global and regional studies, etc. The Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University anticipates continued academic exchanges and collaboration with the Education University of Hong Kong, particularly in areas such as computational thinking and STEAM education, to foster educational innovation and development.
