In the intelligent era where knowledge can be learned anywhere and anytime, promoting the digitization and modernization of education is a general trend, a developmental necessity, and a direction for reform. In 2024, co-organized by Beijing Normal University and UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, the 7th Global Competition on Design for Future Education is one of the annual key events of the World Digital Education Alliance. This year, the competition will introduce an enterprise track focusing on leveraging digital capabilities for educational innovation and blending industry with education. This initiative aims to use digital technology as a catalyst for educational reform, boosting enterprise leadership in technological innovation and contributing to the high-quality development of education.

1. Organizers

Beijing Normal University
UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education

2. Registration and Case-study Submission

From March 1st to May 31st, 2024

3. Participants

The participants should be employees in the education, technology, design and other related departments in enterprises. They can enroll as an individual, or in teams. Each team should consist of no more than 5 members.

4. Themes

  • AIGC and Education: How can AIGC, based on their features of generating texts, videos, programming codes, and 3-D printings, create infinite possibilities in improving efficiency, effectiveness and equity?
  • Metaverse and Education: How can an immersive online space construct educational scenarios in metaverse courses, metaverse educational spaces for various subjects and metaverse with digital twins?
  • Rural Education: What design can help rural technological development and promote the revitalization of rural education, such as experimental teaching innovations based on local rural resources, and innovative design of teaching tools, equipment, and instruments using digital technology?
  • Inclusive Education: How can an educational model help provide appropriate and high-quality education to promote educational equality? Consider people with physical disabilities and health impairments, the elderly, girls and women, students with learning difficulties, gifted children, and vulnerable groups affected by war conflicts or crises.
  • Educational Neuroscience: How to design scientific and effective educational solutions, including policy design, curriculum design, instructional design, evaluation design, educational culture and space design, teaching aids and toys design, artificial intelligence and meta-universe design, etc., in order to improve the quality of education and teaching.
  •

5. Case-study Requirements

Based on design thinking, case-studies should center on the difficulties in teaching, fully leveraging the emerging technologies to design effective solutions. There is no rigid requirement for the case-study types, including but not limited to the following types:
(1) Types

  • Physical Modeling Design: Design objects or models of educational products by model-making software or physical materials. Submitted works should include the design concept, images or videos of the product, and explanations of its key structure, features, materials, functionalities, and application scenarios.
  • Hardware Sketching Design: Design sketches of educational hardware products by hand-drawn or computer-generated. Submitted works should include the design concept, overall and detailed images of works, and description of key structure, manufacturing process, main materials, dimensions, and usage instructions.
  • Software Prototyping Design: Design Prototypes of educational software products. Submitted works should include the design concept, product structure, and core functionalities. It is encouraged to include high-fidelity prototypes showcasing visual or interactive designs. Product demonstration should be provided through images or videos.
  • Solution Design: Design feasible solutions for specific educational issues, including courses, activities, resources, services, etc. Submitted works should include the design concept, main content, implementation steps, and application scenarios, etc.
