With COVID-19 rapidly spreading worldwide, according to UNESCO statistics on March 26, 2020, more than 1.5 billion school students at all levels worldwide have been affected due to COVID-19 outbreak. This implied providing online learning from home to maintain undisrupted learning. However, students have different individual differences, and not all of them have good self-regulation and motivation.
Therefore, UNESCO INRULED, UNESCO IITE, Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University and other partners have jointly released the handbook entitled “Guidance on Active Learning at Home during Educational Disruption: Promoting student’s self-regulation skills during COVID-19 outbreak” to explain the potential problems during the process of active learning caused by both external and internal factors. Additionally, with vivid pictures, it reports the practical experience of active learning from students all over the country and offers specific suggestions with a great variety of cases and relevant theories. Furthermore, this handbook presents a SCIENCE model with seven suggestions for active learning at home, namely Scheduling learning and playing in balance, Choosing learning resources on demand, Inspiring the study from playing, Engaged in learning by self-monitoring, Nourishing learning ability with e-assessment, Carrying out reflection on learning methods, and Exercising daily and moderately.
