The lack of Internet has deprived many students of the pubic network of the possibility to continue studying during the new coronavirus pandemic. Without being able to connect, Distance Learning is not an option for many in these almost five months of isolation and social distancing, at a time when face-to-face classes are suspended. However, on Wednesday afternoon, Governor Paulo Câmara announced an investment of R$ 23 million to ensure internet to students of the state education network still in the school year of 2020.
The program was named "Conecta Aí" and, according to the Pernambuco government, will benefit about 500,000 students. The program is scheduled to begin on August 11, the date that celebrates Student's Day.
In Conecta Aí, internet data packages will guarantee free access to material from the Education Platform-PE, Virtual Learning Environment (AVA) and Google Classroom. In addition, 30,000 basic education teachers and five thousand low-income students from the University of Pernambuco (UPE) will also be favored.
With the Internet access guaranteed by the program, teachers who work in the state public network will benefit from the transmission of classes over the Internet, access to virtual tools for interaction with students and participation in various courses offered by the Secretariat of Education and Sports, through the Educa-PE platform. According to the State, this is a continuous training program, focused on the use of new technologies and skills development.
Non-presential content
The Secretariat of Education and Sports has been offering non-presential classes through the Educa-PE platform since April 6, on four different open TV channels and on the Internet, through YouTube and Facebook. On April 16, the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA) was also launched, a space that concentrates digital educational resources aligned with the Curriculum of Pernambuco and integrated with Educa-PE - with the creation of Conecta Aí, the expectation is that more students from the state public network have access to this content.
The platform also has extra resources for the preparation of classes, reflective activities and thematic challenges.
Students also have access to PE at ENEM, with preparatory classes not in person every Saturday morning, in partnership with teachers from private schools, with live transmission over the Internet and open TV.
The agency has also made available, on its official website, guidelines for complementary materials for students and teachers to develop activities and study during the isolation period. The content is focused on Early Childhood Education, Elementary School (Beginning and End Years), High School, Youth and Adult Education (EJA), Field Education, Inclusive Education, Indigenous Education and the Project of Travessia.
