Teachers will receive training from YouTube and its partner, Thumb Media in Portugal, so that they can use the above platforms to effectively provide courses online.
The Ministry of Education announced that YouTube and Thumb Media have established a partnership and added this program to the #EstudoEmCasa (learning at home) project. In addition to the new courses, these channels will also provide content on TV as needed.
The Ministry of Education stated that “This will be another teaching resource available to teachers.” The Telescola (tele-escola, escola = school) online project will cover secondary education (tenth to twelfth grades).
In the first stage, volunteer teachers will be trained from April 16 to 17, and they will be accompanied by technicians from the Ministry of Education and YouTube and Thumb Media. The training will be conducted via the Internet and is divided into four modules: how to create channels on YouTube, how to publish videos, how to make videos at home, and explain how the General Administration of Education approves publishable content.
Thumb Media CEO Miguel Sabino said: "The purpose of this is to make teachers use the above platform to provide teaching content without barriers." He added: "The biggest difference between RTP (Portugal National Broadcasting Platform) and YouTube is that YouTube make all subjects in all teaching cycles available to any student or guardian with Internet access at any time ".
Note: The program is now accessible by searching for DGE #EstudoEmCasa on YouTube.
