UNESCO:UNESCO mobilizes 122 countries to promote open science and cooperation
On March 30th, UNESCO convened an online meeting with representatives of the scientific departments of multiple countries. The meeting was attended by representatives of 122 countries, including 77 ministerial officials, as well as the European Commission ’s Research and Innovation Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, the African Union ’s Scientific Affairs Commissioner Sarah Anyang Agbor, and the former Vice President of Nicaragua Moisés Omar Halleslevens Acevedo and World Health Organization chief scientist Soumya SWAMINATHAN. Representatives of the United States and Israel also participated in this meeting.
The meeting aimed to discuss the importance of international scientific cooperation and increased scientific investment in the context of the new coronavirus epidemic. The specific topics are as follows:
(1) Exchange knowledge, support scientific research and narrow the knowledge gap between countries.
(2) Mobilize policy makers, scientific researchers, innovation teams, publishers and civil society to realize the free use of scientific data, scientific research results, educational resources and scientific research equipment.
(3) Strengthen the connection between science and policy to meet social needs.
(4) Open science to the society under the condition that the national border is closed.
