On March 30th, UNESCO convened an online meeting with representatives of the scientific departments of multiple countries. The meeting was attended by representatives of 122 countries, including 77 ministerial officials, as well as the European Commission ’s Research and Innovation Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, the African Union ’s Scientific Affairs Commissioner Sarah Anyang Agbor, and the former Vice President of Nicaragua Moisés Omar Halleslevens Acevedo and World Health Organization chief scientist Soumya SWAMINATHAN. Representatives of the United States and Israel also participated in this meeting.
The meeting aimed to discuss the importance of international scientific cooperation and increased scientific investment in the context of the new coronavirus epidemic. The specific topics are as follows:
