[Call for Videos] The 7th Global Competition on Design for Future Education

In 2024, co-organized by Beijing Normal University (BNU) and UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), the 7th Competition includes a series of activities. As one of the activities, with a theme of “Shorts on Contextual Teaching and Learning”, the 2024 Call for Videos is to stimulate the enthusiasm of teachers, students, and those engaged in education to demonstrate the application of contextual teaching and learning in line with the development of the new era. It encourages participants to use 5-minute videos to create some inspiring narrative-driven situations, problem-focused situations, real-life situations, etc., enabling students to grasp knowledge effectively while also enhancing the overall effectiveness of teaching.

1. Registration and Video Submission: March 1st to June 30th, 2024

2. Theme: Shorts on Contextual Teaching and Learning

3. Participants: Teachers, students (including but not limited to the students in universities, colleges, and vocational institutions), and others engaged in education. Participants are welcome to register either individually or as a group.

4. Content: Based on contextual teaching and learning methods, participants should create meaningful educational situations by using 5-minute videos, such as narrative-driven situations, problem-focused situations, real-life situations, etc., aiming to guide students to think actively in the created educational scenarios. Participants are encouraged to mainly focus on one subject and design a video on contextual teaching and learning that integrates different kinds of knowledge in various subjects.

5. Submission Requirements
(1) Only Chinese or English are available in the video. The video content should be original, logical, scientific, and reasonable.
(2) The video can take the form of live-action, screen recording, animation production, etc. New technology-based short videos are encouraged. The picture and voice should be stable, smooth, and clear. The watermark and brand logos cannot appear in the video, and sensitive information shall not be involved. The duration is within 5 minutes in MP4 format. The minimum canvas size is 720p. It is recommended that participants use a horizontal screen with a picture ratio of 16:9. The video size cannot exceed 200M, and the image quality shall be clear.
(3) The submitted videos must be original and have never been published in newspapers, magazines, or other media.

6. Submission Sites
(1) There are two channels to register and submit the videos, E-Library platform or the email. Please submit the works through only one channel. Please fill in your name, organization, contact information, video title, and 200-word video description when submitting works. The name of the submitted files should be in the form of “author name--country--organization--video title”.

(2) Follow the progress and participate in public review. The shortlisted videos will be released on the official Douyin (Account: Global Competition on Design for Future Education) or official YouTube (Account: GCD4FE) for public review. Participants and audience can repost, comment, and give a like to their favorites.

7. Assessment
(1) The Organizing Committee will organize the first review of the submitted videos, and the shortlisted videos will be released for public review. Videos failing to pass the first review will not enter the next round. The winning videos will be evaluated comprehensively by the Judging Committee.
(2) It will be awarded for monthly outstanding works and annual winning works. From early April to July, the Organizing Committee will select the monthly outstanding works and announce the results via the new media and official website. The annual awards include Best Video Content, Best Video Design, Best Video Innovation, Best Video Editing, Most Popular Video, etc.
(3) The assessment criteria will mainly be based on accuracy, creativity and coordination.

8. Benefits
(1) The winners will receive certificates of honor.
(2) The outstanding works will have the opportunity to be included in the E-Library initiated by UNESCO IITE and NetDragon, EDA platform and be publicized via the official website, Weibo, Douyin, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
(3) Winners will have the opportunity to be invited to attend the conferences hosted by Beijing Normal University, such as the Global Smart Education Conference, etc.
