Background

In 2012, President Xi Jinping put forward the initiative of "building a community with a shared future for mankind". This initiative aims to pursue China’s interests as well as focus on what other countries concern. It also aims to develop commonly with all countries while in pursuit of China’s development. The sustainable development of education is not only the call of the times, but also an indispensable part of the process of building a community with a shared future for mankind. Training new international talents with innovative ability has become one of the trends of today's intelligent age.
In response to the call for promoting international cultural communication in the new era, Beijing Normal University will hold the Global Competition on Design for Future Education with the theme “Future Education in the Intelligent Era”. Participants from multiple disciplines will work in teams and complete their designs within 48 hours. During the competition, participants will explore the possibility of interdisciplinary creation and enhance their practical ability. Besides, they can learn and understand more effective communication skills and the key role of education in the establishment of the “global community with a shared future for mankind”. Meanwhile, the competition will promote the development of "future education design" concept and models.

Introduction

GCD4FE is a new event to make students challenge themselves and has capability in innovation and cooperation. The competition is in the form of promotion. According to the proposition of the competition, all the team will continuously modify and optimize their design, plan and make prototypes, under the guidance of supervisors who are in areas of education, design and computer science. GCD4FE is made for communication and learning for students in all respects. All members of teams will explore learning model in future during the competition, dealing with the problems in teaching and learning by design thinking. This will be an unprecedented competition that challenge student themselves breaking their limits in aspects of physics, mentality, and creation.
The team who will win the competition will get generous gifts, and the participants also will have chance to get employment or internship of enterprises in Fortune Global 500.

Competition Venue

Stage 1: Application Submission (September 9 to October 15, 2019):

In the stage of application submission, students from all the colleges and universities in China who are interested in the future education can apply for the competition. The deadline for application is October 15, 2019.

Stage 2: Online Learning (October 20 to November 9, 2019):

In the stage of online learning, candidates who passed the primary selection will participate in a three-week online learning to master relevant design theories and skills through the study of design methodology.

Stage 3: Finals for Sub-Contest Areas ( November 22 to November 24, 2019):

In the stage of finals for sub-contest areas, students in three division zones, China, Serbia and Tunisia, will simultaneously start 48H Design Education Promotion Competition. Students are required to complete the product design according to the competition proposition within 48 hours. Judges will review the design plan based on the innovation, market prospect and social responsibility of the product. The winning teams from each area will compete in the global finals in Beijing.

Stage 4: Global Finals (TBD, December, 2019):

The qualified teams from three division zones will meet in Beijing to present their team works in the form of roadshow report, and compete for the champion of 2019 Global Competition on Design for Future Education.

Application Requirements

The students who have passion, strong motivation and strong ability to innovate in designing educational products can apply for the competition. Those whose majors are pedagogy, psychology, product design, art or graphic design, software engineering and other related ones will be given priority.
