The 3rd Design, Computing and Innovative Thinking Education Forum was held in Beijing

      On December 9, the 3rd "Design,Computing and Innovative Thinking Education Forum" hosted by Beijing Normal University (BNU), organized by the Smart Learning Institute (SLI) of Beijing Normal University, and co-organized by NetDragon Huayu Education and YASN International Group Co., Ltd was held at the Beijing National Convention Center.
      Like the previous forums, this forum also invited many scholars, outstanding teachers and researchers, and outstanding enterprise representatives to share their concepts and cases of design, computation and innovation from different perspectives. At the same time, it also discussed the hot issues such as artificial intelligence education after the release of the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan by the State Council. ZENG Haijun, vice dean of Smart Learning Institute of BNU, introduced the agenda to the guests and participants and reviewed the wonderful moments of the previous two forums.

      In the morning, the theme of the Forum was “Design Thinking and Innovative Thinking”. The opening ceremony was presented by LIU Guanzhong, professor of Academy of Arts &Design of Tsinghua University, who gave the speech about “Design- Thinking Method of Re-formatting”. Professor Liu believes in modern society, design requires subversive innovation, and design is a game of thinking. HU Weiping, professor of Shanxi Normal University, presented a report entitled “Models and Applications of Innovative Talent Cultivation in the Elementary Education”. Combined with the basic research and applied research of the Educational Technology Laboratory, it is proved that the innovation quality of students can be strengthened through training and intervention.
      LIN Chen, senior vice president of NetDragon delivered a speech on “Design Methodology 2.0 –Application Tooling and Talent Cultivation of Design”, referring to the combination of “Design Methodology 2.0” and design education in universities, and the course of "Design Methodology" to train students' design thinking. This session was hosted by NIAN Zhiying, director of Huayu Education Think Tank.

     The theme of the morning panel was “Creating Design Thinking in Maker and STEAM”. NIAN Zhiying, director of Huayu Education Think Tank, shared a speech titled “Design Thinking: Helping the Future of Education” and introduced how “ Design and Learning Courses” at BNU to develop and improve student project-based collaborative learning, the ability to think systematically based on real problems, and the ability to design and solve problems through school-enterprise cooperation.
      MAO Chengjie, a senior teacher of information technology discipline of Beijing Jingshan School , shared a topic of “Design Thinking Brings a New Look in Classroom Teaching——Taking the Practice of Digital Scientist Course as an Example”, introducing the concept model and method of the school-based compulsory course of Beijing Jingshan Middle School.
      GAO Ying, director of Science and Technology Education Office of the Beijing No.8 High School, gave a speech titled “Scientific Popularization of Foundry, Science and Technology Innovation for a Wonderful Life”, and shared how Beijing No.8 High School can develop students' rigorous and serious scientific spirit by carrying out various activities.
      XIANG Jin, head of Maker Workshop of the Primary School Affiliated to Xi'an Jiaotong University, shared the "Controllable and Uncertain STEAM Large Class Teaching Course Development”. Through cases analysis, he introduced the application of the controllable uncertainty mode in the large class teaching.
      ZHENG Liangdong, senior consultant of Pearson Course, gave a speech titled “Innovation Ability Training: STEM Course Design and Case Sharing”. Based on the case study, he reveals how STEM education cultivate students' comprehensive ability from the perspective of educational practice. This session was hosted by MA Dongming, deputy director of the Product Design Department of Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

     In the afternoon, the theme of the Forum was “Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence”. LIU Jia, professor of Beijing Normal University, gave a report titled “Creating the Core Competence of the Future – Computational Thinking”. Professor Liu emphasized that computational thinking is not a boring code, but a cultivation of excellent thinking qualities such as mathematical logic thinking, innovation consciousness, and critical spirit. It is a compulsory course for the future elites and talents.      
       XIONG Zhang, professor of Beihang University gave the report entitled “Computational Thinking in the New Curriculum Standards for Information Technology in Ordinary High Schools”, and interpreted the computational thinking in the new curriculum standards for ordinary high school information and clarified the information literacy from four dimensions: information awareness, computational thinking, digital learning and innovation, and information society responsibility.
       ZHOU Longping, vice president of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, gave a report titled “Exploration of Artificial Intelligence Education and Innovative Talents Training in the High School of Renmin University of China”, introducing the Inter-disciplinary Integration of AI+STEAM aimed at cultivating intelligent literacy. The curriculum system penetrates the intelligent literacy into every aspect of daily education and teaching. This session was hosted by HUANG Wei, chief editor of Global Education of China Education Daily.

       In the panel of "Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence ", WEI Xiongying, middle and primary school information technology researcher of Education of Zhejiang Province, shared" the Practice and Thinking Regarding the Evaluation Reform of Information Technology in High Schools of Zhejiang Province ", and showed a series of explorations in the reform process of high school information technology curriculum in Zhejiang province.
       LIU Xiwei, senior engineer of Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared a theme called “Computational Thinking Education for the Primary and Secondary Schools in the Era of Intelligence". He also gave some suggestions for the computational thinking of primary and secondary school education, and discussed the application of computational thinking in artificial intelligence education and competition.
       XIONG Xueting, high school information technology researcher of Xuanwu Branch of Beijing Institute of Education, delivered a speech about "The Practice and Exploration of Artificial Intelligence in the Information Technology Curriculum of Middle Schools of Xicheng district ". It mainly discussed three aspects: the setting background of artificial intelligence curriculum, the curriculum status in Xicheng district and the future direction of the curriculum.
       HUANG Guijing, head of Baidu educational business department of AI, shared the theme of “Baidu Education Service Based on Intelligent Technology" and introduced Baidu Education's efforts and services in the education field based on intelligent technology under the background of the nation’s great importance to artificial intelligence education.
       Finally, the guests and participants took a lively discussion and communication. This part was hosted by YAN Xiaomei, National Engineering Laboratory for Cyberlearning and Intelligent Technology.

      "Design, Computing and Innovative Thinking Education Forum" has been held since 2016, and has been successfully held for three times. The Forum aims to explore the concept and practical development of three thinking cultivation, and has become an academic, ideological and leading brand in the field of education informatization in China.
