Professor Ronghuai Huang and his team visited the London Festival of Learning & the 19th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education

        On June 27 - July 1, Prof. Ronghuai Huang from Beijing Normal University National Engineering Laboratory for Cyberlearning and Intelligent Technology and his team went to UK to participate Festival of Learning & the 19th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education. During the visit, Prof. Huang and his team went to University College London and Cambridge University for visit and exchange, communicated with heads of academic institutes, and discussed research projects and the possibility of cooperation in the future in areas of artificial intelligence in education, learning science, STEM education and so forth.

       Every two years, The International AIED Society holds an International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, or AIED. On June 27 - July 1, the 19th AIED conference was held in London, UK, hundreds of global education and artificial intelligence experts gathered in London, shared the development and application of artificial intelligence in the field of education. As the main partner of AIED conference, Beijing Normal University National Engineering Laboratory for Cyberlearning and Intelligent Technology was invited to attend the conference.
       This year, International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, International Conference of the Learning Sciences (ICLS), Large-scale Learning Conference (L @ S) were held in the same period, and formed a week of multiple learning seminars - London Festival of Learning. It has attracted more than more than 1000 experts, scholars, educators, enterprise representatives and learners around the world, brought together the world experts, and discussed frontier development of the artificial intelligence, learning science, and educational technology innovation.

       The 19th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) is an international high-level conference on intelligent systems and cognitive science in education domain, famous by providing intelligent systems and cognitive science methods for high quality research in education computing application field. The theme of this year's conference is "Beyond behavior and computing: deep learning between humans and machines". Topics covered include computer science, cognitive and learning sciences, education, game design, language science, and specific fields.

       As the only female keynote speaker, Prof. Yanyan li from Beijing Normal University provided a keynote speech titled "Public Knowledge Graph Initiative for Science Education". This paper introduces the applications and research outcomes of Public Knowledge Graph in learning science field.

       As one of the major partners of AIED, Beijing Normal University National Engineering Laboratory for Cyberlearning and Intelligent Technology also hosted the "Improve the Quality of Education with Artificial Intelligence, Promote the Education Equality" workshop, which invited a number of experts, professors and representatives of enterprises from China, the United States, Brazil, and conducted interdisciplinary discussion and communication surrounding artificial intelligence in education, learning science, education technology, education investment and other topics.

       Professor Carolyn Penstein Rose, from Carnegie Mellon University, delivered a presentation titled "Conversational AI as a Catalyst for Sustainable Learning" during the workshop. The importance of interactive and conversational teaching techniques and forms in promoting sustainable learning was emphasized.
       Mr. Yuandong Lin, CEO of ChiVox Co., Ltd, delivered a keynote speech titled "AI + ED from Improvement to Integration". It introduces the current development status of education technology companies in China, technology and products, and the future global development trend of "Artificial Intelligence + Education".
       During his visit to the UK, Prof. Huang and his team also visited the UCL knowledge lab,Cambridge University School of Education Innovation and Reform Center, Cambridge University School of Computer Science and Technology (computer laboratory), and communicated with the heads of various institutes, and conducted research introduction and academic exchanges between China and the UK with experts and professors in the fields of artificial intelligence, learning science and smart learning environment.

       Beijing Normal University National Engineering Laboratory for Cyberlearning and Intelligent Technology also invited well-known professors and scholars in the field of language technology, learning science, cognitive science and educational technology from Carnegie Mellon University, Arizona State University, Rutgers University, and the University of Memphis, conducted the academic exchanges and communication, built a good platform for the experts for contact purposes, and discussed the possibility of academic cooperation between future laboratory and American colleges and universities.
