Público: Schools are unable to reopen, teachers warn

A group of teachers evaluated (reopening the school) will "increase risk" from an epidemiological perspective, and the inequality among students will increase.
In the documents sent to Congress and the President of the Republic, 30 teachers from 11 schools warned that many schools did not have the conditions to reopen on May 18.

There are also leaders, assistants, administrative and technical personnel facing the same situation.

For example, there are not enough teachers to replace the group of teachers at risk. “Many schools will not be able to change the status quo as what they are required to.” As a result, inequality among students will increase: some schools reopen, some classes activities are resumed, while others have to be excluded out of this possibility.
The education committee of Escola Secundária Camões (the name of school) in Lisbon expressed the similar view: with the resuming of classes and national examinations on schedule, the right to education of Portuguese students is not guaranteed by equality. From an epidemiological point of view, teachers believe that young people who pursue autonomy tend to engage in deep social interactions when thousands of students return to school. Therefore, it is impossible to control these active subjects that cause the spread of covid-19.
In addition, teachers believe that “it is not adequate nor necessary to take national exam in order to obtain higher education opportunities." The reason is that under the current circumstances, if the exam is conducted as usual, it will further more increase the inequality between candidates. The alternative measure they advocated was to rank students in the twelfth grade who have taken at least two national exams throughout the overall performance during middle school.
