German Chancellor Angela Merkel suggested that school operations should be resumed gradually from May 4th. The first classes to be started will be graduates and students who need to prepare for the exams, as well as senior students in elementary schools. However, as early as this week, some students have returned to the classroom under strict hygienic conditions to take the Abitur exam, while others will resume classes next Monday (April 27). By the end of April, the education ministers of the German states will develop a series of regulations on health measures, school bus operation, rest time and group division to guide how to meet the social distance between people.

On Monday, Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia have already started exam preparation. On the same day, Berlin, Brandenburg and Schleswig-Holstein also allow students to take the Abitur exam. Some states have followed suit in the following days, while others will wait until early May.
