【2018.01.04】The Cutting-edge Innovative Design Concept and Products are Gathered in “Smart Learning & Innovative Design Week”

        On January 4, 2018, Smart Learning & Innovative Design Week was continuously held in the Jingshi Hall, Beijing Normal University (BNU).It was sponsored by BNU, Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University (SLIBNU), Graduate School of Beijing Normal University (GSBNU), Faculty of Education of Beijing Normal University (FEBNU) and Elernity, supported by Beijing Design Society (BDS). The events today included The Second Design、Computing & Innovative Thinking  Summit, the special presentation from excellent universities and enterprises as well as exhibitions of products designed by universities and enterprises, etc.
 
The Second Design、Computing & Innovative Thinking Summit
        The keynote presentation of the summit has invited Guanzhong Liu, Professor of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (THU), known as “Father of Chinese Industrial Design”. He shared a report on “Design Thinking: the Third Thinking!”, introducing the audiences into the field of design thinking vividly. He thinks that design itself is creation, and “design thinking” has brought a lot of products in high-quality and high-prestige for industry, art, management, etc., playing an important role in the development of related fields.

        Jianzhong Zhou, a researcher in the Institute of Science and Development, China Academic Science (CAS), reported on “The Development of Innovative Talents in the Future Development of Science and Technology”. He mentioned that future science and technology will become the dominant power which supports and leads the development of commercial society. New science and technology will develop in depth gradually, having higher professional requirements for researchers. The globalization of science and technology also profoundly changed the conventional structure and methods of science research, and these changes have brought new challenges to the development of talents.
Jianzhong Zhou, Researcher in the Institute of Science and Development, CAS
        Nian-shing Chen, Professor of Griffith University, gave a report on “Critical thinking skills: Assessment and Cultivation Approaches”. Based on the research on primary school students’ critical thinking, he shared the ideas that understanding, analysis, assessment, deduction and explanation are the five main points of critical thinking. How to qualify and evaluate the five indexes is important for the research on critical thinking. Besides, he found that the research suggested cultural background had a great important influence on the five indexes. The keynote presentation was presided by Yuan Gao, Director of Open Educational Resources Laboratory, SLIBNU.
Nian-shing Chen, Professor of Higher Education Institute, Griffith University
         In Maker Education Practice Workshop, Zhongming Weng, Associate Professor of Software College, Tianjin University, gave a report on “Making without Makerspace”, interpreting how technology brings more possibilities to Maker Education from the perspective of the application of AR and VR. Qian Fu, Associate Professor of BNU, talked about how to use App Inventor to make magic development. Everyone can learn to programme and enjoy the happiness of Maker Education. Junjie Wu, a teacher of Beijing Jingshan School, gave a report on “The Closed-loop Learning Experience of Learning to Build Maker Education Based on the Learning of Products”, sharing his views on Maker Education from his personal experiences. In his view, maker can overturn something which we get accustomed to in our daily routine. This part was presided by Shuqiang Song, director of editorial department of Modern Educational Technology.

Special Presentation of Excellent Universities and Enterprises        
        Firstly, as a participant of ME310 Project, Jingqi Xu, a research assistant of SLIBNU and coach of ME310 course, together with Haogang Bao, Ph. D. student of educational technology, BNU, introduced how a course with more than 40 years of history develop, and presented the continuous changes of the course brought by the design concepts from Stanford Design College, such as the human-oriented rule, fuzziness rule, model change rule, circle rule, etc. Then, Junjie Peng, Senior Design Director of Industrial Design, NetDragon, Ziwei An, COO of Leju Robot, Chen Bao, Product Director of TRIZ EDU and Shuimu Maker, Renjie Fu, COO of Zige, Zhenshan Wang, CEO of Microduino introduced the influence and changes brought by the development of technology from their respective fields. This part was presided by Teng Wang, Director of Educational Robot Engineering Center, SLIBNU.

The Exhibitions of Products of Universities and Enterprises
During the Smart Learning & Innovative Design Week, the exhibitions of products designed by universities and enterprises were held at the meantime in Siji Hall, First Floor of Major Building in BNU. The two theme exhibitions, Innovative Design Experience Zone and Design & Computing Thinking Experience Zone, have attracted more than 800 people to come to visit and experience. Universities, schools and enterprises like BNU, Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Stanford University, Beijing Jingshan School, Hangzhou Yangtze River Experimental Primary School, Elenity, Microduino, Leju Robot, TRIZ EDU, ZANVR, Zige, etc, introduced participants into the innovative design product solution, like the future maker classroom design solution presented by TRIZ EDU, the real-time flow counting system presented by Jizhi, etc., leading the participants to experience the endless possibility of education development brought by technology.
        Tomorrow, the Smart Learning & Innovative Design Week will bring “‘Design & Learning’ Student Works Report and Comments”, “Design Theme Conversation” between students and enterprises, etc. “‘Design & Learning’ Student Works Report and Comments” has invited Guanzhong Liu, Professor in Academy of Arts & Design, THU, Weizu Song, Vice Secretary-General of China Industrial Design Association (CIDA), Jianzhong Zhou, a researcher of the Institute of Science and Development, CAS, Jinsheng Ma, Professor of BeiHang University, Junjie Peng, Senior Design Director of Industrial Design, NetDragon, etc. During the event, there will be more products presented like JOININ, 51Xueka, Milu, Happy Planet, Sizzle Power, Cell Castle, Yizhi, Science Gezi-shop, Pre-Manager, etc. Stay stunned!
